Hi NWC Families, of Incoming 9th-12th athletes,
I have some exciting news to share!
In addition to having an athletic trainer / physical trainer attached to the athletic department to provide care and support for student athletes, we will be bringing in a ZERO HOUR Strength / Conditioning Instructor for interested 2026-2027 9th-12th students.  This is NOT a school class at Northwest Christian.  It is an extension of the athletic department.  The athletic department and coaches believe deeply in weight training and conditioning to reduce injuries and help our kids prepare in strength, mobility, and flexibility.
Areas of Emphasis for the Zero HOUR Strength/Conditioning Instructor / Sessions:
1.  Individual plans for student athletes based on the sports they play, areas of weakness/injury, etc.
2.  Partnership with the athletic department, the coaches, and our school athletic trainers to make sure we are.
providing the best plan for the student athlete.
3.  Diligence in making sure the athletes are using correct techniques.
4.  System for recording and tracking the athlete's progress and supporting student athletes in their progress.
5.  Areas of emphasis although variations per sport:
·    Injury prevention
·    Strength (Upper/Lower Body)
·    Explosiveness
·    Vertical and ankle stability
·    Lateral movements
·    Quick feet movements
·    Running/Cardio
·    Plyometrics
·    Band Work
·    Mental
6.  Guidance on additional workouts/plans.
Who can be involved in the Strength/Conditioning Sessions?
  •        Incoming 9th-12th NWC student athletes.
  •       There will be separate sessions for the girls and boys.

The program will be divided into four seasons of 3 months each.
  •        Summer- June-August
  •        Fall- September- November
  •        Winter- Dec-February
  •        Spring- March-May
SUMMER SESSIONS BEGIN:  JUNE 11th

FINANCIAL COST:
This program will be possible because of the combined financial support and buy-in from multiple entries:  all our athletic programs, the Crusader Club, and the athletic department/school.  This has made it possible to keep the financial cost for the athlete at an absolute minimum!   God is good!
Athletes will be encouraged to do this all year long, but they can also choose what seasons to do it and pay as they go.  It will only cost an athlete $20 per season (Each season is 3 months).  After an athlete is registered and the sessions begin each season, then the financial office will charge the family account on FACTS.  Once an athlete signs up, there is no refund if they decide not to show up.  If this is a financial hardship for your family, please contact Beth Wing (bwing@nwcs.org) to fill out a financial hardship request form.
INSTRUCTOR:
Kristopher Daratha
We are excited to welcome Kris into our NWC community!  Kris has a passion for strength/conditioning and healthy living along with his heart for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Below is a little bit about Kris!

Kris Daratha is joining the Northwest Christian community as the new strength and conditioning coach. This program will run all summer and into the school year. Kris’ main focus is to work with the coaches to prepare all student athletes for their upcoming seasons in three ways: general strength, injury prevention and sport specific movements. Kris believes that the best athlete will make the best sport-specific player. Kris coaches with the Pete Carroll philosophy. Positive + Competition will drive the best results! Kris joins the community with unparalleled expertise in the field of strength and conditioning

Kris is a teacher at Riverside High school. He has taught high school science and health for 11 years, as well as coached for 10 years. Through his coaching profession he has coached cross country and track.
When not teaching Kris is a professional Obstacle Course Racer (OCR), primarily through Spartan Races. Kris was NOT the best athlete in high school and never competed in college. He found Spartan Racing and dedicated his life to winning an obstacle course race. It took him 7 years of relentless training before he achieved his goal. Kris now has podium (top 3) in 14 OCR races, including 7 Spartan Elite podium finishes.

Inspired by others asking about his journey, Kris published a book describing in detail what it took to go from the average person to a top OCR racer in “The Pursuit.” The Pursuit also includes a training manual to help others in their fitness journey to reach their goals.

Kris is also the founder of Daratha Performance & Analytics (DPA). DPA is an online fitness program krisdaratha.com where they help people of all abilities in their health journeys. From the person too busy to go to the gym and needs an expertly crafted quick 10 min daily workout, to the elite athlete needing 1 on 1 coaching to reach their full potential.

Kris is going to take his collective experiences to bring the best to the student athletes of Northwest Christian.

SUBSTITUTE ZERO HOUR STRENGTH/INSTRUCTOR:   Between conflicts, work, and vacations, no one person can cover every session so we already have an amazing substitute zero hour instructor in place also when Kris is gone.  I would love to introduce her at this time also.
