Week of 3/23/2026

Core Value – Heart

Highlighted HS Varsity Baseball Athlete of the Week:

Ben Roth

Benjo had an excellent game behind the plate. His heart and effort not only saved us a lot of runs as a result of his blocking many balls in the dirt, but his example of determination as he played hard for both games. Benjo demonstrates what it means to lead by example with heart.

Highlighted HS JV Baseball Athlete of the Week:

Skyler Pounder

Skyler is a very hard worker who reflects an all-in attitude that comes from the heart every day. Because of his work ethic and heart, Skyler has continued to progress as a baseball player. We are excited to see this young man compete this year and, in the years, to come. Good Job Skyler!

Highlighted HS Varsity Softball Athlete of the Week:

Micah Wells

Micah is always one of the players I think of when I think of who helps create the heart of our team.  She always brings such a positive, friendly vibe that encourages both players and coaches alike! Micah always hustles and takes on every challenge with the same mentality. Her light shines for all to see and helps lift others up even on hard days.  Thank you, Micah!

Highlighted HS JV Softball Athlete of the Week:

Mady Barkley

Mady has been a great example of showing heart this week as she has been super dependable and has given her all to everything; even despite a hurting knee at times. She keeps the same great attitude and tries to improve every day!  Keep it up, Mady!

Highlighted HS Golf Athlete of the Week:

Josh Mattis

Josh Mattis has a sentimental blend of passion, emotional resilience and physical endurance required for the golf game. Golf requires managing high-pressure situations, overcoming adversity, and staying focused after bad shots, often described as a stressful game of ups and downs.  Josh believes in playing golf with joy and being present in the moment, rather than just focusing on the score.  His mental toughness shifts from the pursuit of ego driven perfection to a spiritual discipline focusing on patience, humility and character development.  Faith provides a framework that separates a golfer's identity from their score, reducing performance anxiety and creating a more resilient mindset that accepts both good and bad breaks as part of a higher plan. Keep up the good work Josh!

Highlighted HS Track Athletes of the Week:

Ezra Armstrong & Kaitlyn Graham

Ezra and Kaitlyn have both been showing tremendous heart in their workouts and attitude in track. They both ran incredible races at the VCS jamboree, where their heart was seen in their respective races. Kaitlyn and Ezra have great heart for their teammates and are a joy to have on the NWC track team.

Highlighted Boys Soccer Athletes of the Week:

Mykel Strickland

Mykel is one of our most reliable and consistent athletes and such a valuable part of our team. He shows consistent heart in serving however he can and being a strong positive example for others. Mykel serves without complaint and is always the first to jump to someone else’s assistance!
