Nikki Nelson
Nikki Nelson is excited to be a part of the Northwest Christian
girls’ basketball program this
year!
Coach Nelson is originally from
Chewelah, WA and has been playing basketball since she was in 3rd grade. Her dad, who was her coach at the time, made sure
that Nikki wouldn’t become one hand dominant and encouraged her to begin
working heavily on her left hand. With gym time hard to come by, Nikki didn’t
have anywhere to practice her dribbling skills, so her dad drilled two sheets
of plywood to her bedroom floor. Nikki turned her dribbling skills into a half
time performance and performed at many college games as well as for the Seattle
Supersonics.
While in high school, Nikki won the
Nestle Crunch Hot Shot Competition. She was 1 of 10 players that were awarded a
trip to Los Angeles to meet and hang out with Shaquille O Neal and some And-One
Streetball performers.
After high school, Nikki was awarded a
full ride basketball scholarship to the University of New Mexico from
2007-2012. Nikki has coached with NBC Camps off and on since 2012. With NBC,
she has been a Master Teacher at Camps in Idaho, Arizona, Alaska, Washington,
Hawaii, Colorado, Montana, and Canada. She has worked with athletes ranging
from elementary school all the way through high school. More recently, she has
worked intermittently at the Varsity Academy as her work schedule permits.
Nikki has coached both JV and Varsity.
When she coached varsity at Central Kitsap, her girls made it to the first
round of the state tournament.
In her spare time, she enjoys swing
dancing and doing outside activities with her golden retriever.
Her faith in Jesus and
coaching are two of Nikki’s greatest passions. Nikki’s is ecstatic to be able
to coach in an environment where everything is centered around Jesus. She is
looking forward to meeting and jumping into the season that is so quickly upon
us!
