Geoff Tibbetts

I have been a part of the NWC community since 2004 as a parent, a Board Member, and a youth and Middle School Coach. My wife, Christine and I have three kids who have all attended NWC. We love the school and its mission.

I was hired as the Girls Head Basketball Coach in the spring of 2019. Prior to being hired, I had coached both girls and boys in club sports for many years, with most of that being AAU basketball (boys and girls), club baseball and club softball. I also coach High School Baseball here at NWC as an assistant.

I love coaching young people for all the life lessons that come with competing as a team for a common goal. I believe that being Christian and competitive are not mutually exclusive of one another, but in fact go hand in hand. Our team verse embodies this: Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily as unto the Lord and not for people.” My belief in teaching my players to work hard, be committed, be accountable and build mental toughness, is at the core of our program.

If I could sum up my coaching philosophy in one word it would be love. I care deeply about each player in my program. I try to always demonstrate this to them by the way I treat them and through my commitment to them. My goal is to help them become stronger and better physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Ultimately, I want them to become who God intended them to be and I see every player as unique with distinct gifts.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a competitor and I strive to build competitiveness into the kids and into everything we do.

During my first season our team made it to State for the first time in 5 years and got a win at State for the first time in 6 years. We ended up winning our first three games and lost in the Final Four against eventual State Champion, Liberty. We were the lowest seed of all 12 brackets (6 classifications for each boys and girls) to make the Final Four and did so as a 14 seed. The other teams that made it were the 1, 2, and 3 seed. Nobody saw us coming, but we believed in each other and in what we were doing together. It is this culture that I am intent on building called ONE CRU.

ONE CRU means we are C-ommitted to give our best effort and attitude each day; we are R-esilient…we see no challenge as too big, we only see opportunities to overcome and grow as players and people; and lastly, we are U-nified on our mission together, always putting each other ahead of ourselves and putting God at the very top of everything.

I know it takes time and effort to build culture and mindset, but I am committed to do it here at NWC. I will continue to build the program downstream as I organize our youth and continue to get to know every kid from the HS, the MS and each of the little ones.

By playing in our ONE CRU Girls Basketball Program, I believe every player will become a much better basketball player, but more importantly a much better person. I look forward to what’s ahead and pray we can give God the glory no matter what happens!

Sincerely,

Coach Tibbetts
